Applications due 15 May.
Texas A&M University at Qatar announces Future Engineers: High Flyers, an exciting 10-day academic enrichment program designed for exceptional students who are interested in engineering and science. Outstanding faculty, researchers, and technical staff from Texas A&M at Qatar’s prestigious engineering programs will guide participants through hands-on exercises and design challenges as they learn fundamentals of science and engineering.
Students will explore the foundations of aerospace engineering and learn the theory of flight, and then use this knowledge to build their own model aircrafts from scratch. CAD design and 3D printing will be utilized for manufacture aircraft structures. Basics of propulsion systems will be taught to enable the students to select the proper motors and blades. Aerodynamics concepts will be integrated during the aircrafts design process. At the end of the workshop, the students will test their aircraft prototypes and awards will be given to the teams that achieve the highest evaluations based on the aircraft design, flight performance, team work and presentation. This workshop will provide the students with the basic skills and tools to be familiar with the aerospace engineering profession.
Participants for Future Engineers will be selected on a competitive basis, and enrollment is limited to a maximum of 30 students, who will work closely with engineering faculty and technical staff through an intense and exciting course of activities. Future Engineers will run 24 June – 5 July, Sunday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., in the Texas A&M Engineering Building in Education City. Participants will be expected to complete all 10 days of the program to be eligible for awards and to earn a certificate of participation.
Future Engineers should be students in grade 9, 10 or 11 during spring 2018. Nominees should possess exceptional talent in science and mathematics in addition to versatile communication skills — the program and its activities will be delivered in English.
